Here are a few frequently asked questions, about us and about therapy in general. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at: wearesussextherapy@gmail.com
What is therapy?
Therapy, or counselling, means having someone to talk to outside of your everyday life, in a safe and boundaried way. All our therapists are qualified and registered professionals. Sessions are usually weekly, may be held in person or online, and last 50 minutes. You can choose the therapist you feel is best suited to you and your needs, or contact us to make a general enquiry.
How can I access therapy?
We currently offer face-to-face sessions in Brighton and Hove, and also work online. You can contact our therapists individually (each therapist’s direct contact details are listed on their page), or make a general enquiry at wearesussextherapy@gmail.com
How do I know which therapist is right for me?
You can find out more about Our Therapists and their experience; each therapist’s page lists their individual contact details if you would like to contact them directly. Alternatively, you can contact our general email address to find out who is available at a time to suit you, or which therapist might match best with your needs.
How long do I need to have therapy for?
We offer both long- and short-term therapy. You can discuss your individual needs with your therapist, and this will always be led by you, your needs and preferences.
Are your premises accessible for me if I have mobility issues?
We work in a variety of premises. We are committed to guaranteeing that therapy is available to you either in person or online (whichever is your preference) if you have particular mobility or access needs.
Is there anything you can do to help me if I have particular sensory needs or find communication/going to new places difficult (for example)?
We want to do our best to make therapy comfortable for everyone. Please feel free to talk to us about your needs and preferences, and we will help however we can. This might include (but is not limited to): texting instead of talking on the phone; providing a video walk-through of our therapy rooms before you visit; discussing lighting or noise in advance – or whatever you need, let us know.
Can I bring my child to therapy with me?
We are keen to make therapy available to parents and carers. You are welcome to bring your child to therapy if they are under the age of one, or to work online if that makes it easier for you to fit into your schedule.
Do you offer therapy for children/teens/young people?
Please contact us, and we will speak to you about your needs and do our best to help if we can.
What should I do if I don’t think I can afford therapy?
Therapy can be expensive and we understand that financial pressure can be a huge barrier. We want to help to make it accessible and offer a limited number of low-cost places. Please feel free to contact us and discuss your situation. We will help however we can.
Can I access therapy with you if I don’t live in Sussex?
Our therapists work in different locations in Sussex, and work online with clients who are further afield in the UK and overseas. Feel free to contact us, and we will do our best to make it work wherever you are.
How will I know if therapy is helping me?
Quite simply: we will talk about it together. We believe in making the process transparent, checking in with you and being open to honest feedback about how it’s going.
